Congratulations to Lee Whittaker for completing the Great Manchester Cycle challenge on Sunday (29thJune 2014). Lee was representing EDM and cycling for Macmillan, the cancer charity which EDM is supporting as a corporate partner.
The 52 mile race, which consisted of four laps of the city centre course, got underway at 8am and miles of Manchester’s roads were closed to traffic for the day – including part of the Mancunian Way – in order to give riders free rein. The start line, lapping point, and finish were located at the Etihad Campus and 8,000 riders took part in the event which also included 13 mile and 26 mile courses.
Lee had opted to cycle the more grueling distance and he finished in 123rd place with an impressive 2 hour 20 minutes race time.
After crossing the finish line, Lee said:
“It was great to take part in a unique mass participation cycling event and I was very proud to be cycling as part of Team Macmillan.”
To wear the green Macmillan jersey, Lee was tasked with fundraising £250 but the final amount pledged has exceeded this target and totals £304.00 due to a generous donation from EDM.
Lee added:
“I am delighted with the total we have raised! Thank you to colleagues, friends and family who supported me and to EDM for their contribution which helped me surpass the target. These are valuable funds which will assist Macmillan with the great work that they do to help improve the lives of people affected by cancer.”
Rose Tipton, Fundraising Manager Macmillan Cancer Support said:
“Lee did a fantastic job and I know he has a few more challenges organised. We are really grateful to him and to all the staff at EDM who have chosen Macmillan to benefit from their fundraising this year. Practically all the money we receive comes from the generosity of companies like EDM and without their support we would not be able to help as many people as we do.”
Further information:
EDM became associated with Macmillan Cancer Support in February 2014 and as a corporate partner has committed a business donation to help fund Macmillan’s services. EDM hopes to get further behind Macmillan by encouraging staff to participate in fundraising activities and raising awareness for campaigns.
