American Airlines has officially welcomed its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner to its fleet today.

Prior to taking delivery of its new B787 aircraft, American appointed EDM to design and manufacture an extended B787 Door Trainer for installation at its cabin crew training centre in Fort Worth, Texas.

EDM completed the design and manufacture of the door trainer in just six months, with delivery and installation of the equipment following in March last year. American has since been busy training its crew in preparation for its in-service launch this year.

The Door Trainer incorporates all of the usual features which have come to be associated with EDM’s high quality door trainers and American’s variant includes additional features such as a row of economy seats; flight attendant seat; emergency oxygen mask deployment; passenger service unit; workable overhead bins; simulated flight-deck door and a lavatory interior mock-up.

American expects its first B787 to enter revenue service in the second quarter, flying domestically between American’s hubs for several weeks before being launched on international flights.

Mick Bonney, EDM’s Director – Sales and Business Development says:

“It is great to see another one of our B787 customers receive delivery of their first aircraft and EDM wishes American every success with their new Dreamliner fleet. We were very pleased to have provided American with world-class training equipment for their cabin crew to perfect their safety skills and we look forward to continuing to build upon this successful relationship and reinforcing EDM’s strong presence on B787 simulated training devices.”

EDM’s other B787 customers include All Nippon Airways, Continental Airlines (now United Airlines) and China Southern Airlines. EDM was one of the first companies worldwide to develop a simulated Door Trainer for the B787; becoming a lead supplier for ‘Dreamliner’ cabin training equipment.
