Congratulations Archie McKimm!
EDM Ltd is proud to announce Archie McKimm as the recipient of the Apprentice of the Year Award 2025.
The award, presented on 7th October 2025 by Fiona Bird, continues a valued tradition introduced in memory of her late husband and former Managing Director, Kevin Bird, to recognise the exceptional contribution of EDM’s apprentices.
“I was very proud to present the Apprentice of The Year Award to Archie McKimm at EDM in memory of my husband, Kevin Bird, on the 7th of October 2025. Kevin was Managing Director of EDM from 1996 until his death in 2012. He was very keen to encourage and support apprentices.”

Archie was nominated for demonstrating EDM’s core values of People, Aspiration to Lead, and Honesty & Fairness and has truly embodied each of them. Over the past year, he has exceeded expectations, showing an impressive ability to apply a wide range of skills and consistently deliver high-quality work. He has also developed a deep understanding of EDM’s internal processes and how they contribute to the final build an important step in mastering the full manufacturing lifecycle.

We have long been committed to providing an Apprenticeship Programme which dates back to our previous late Managing Director, Kevin Bird, who also started his career as an Apprentice.
Our goal is to provide a safe, supportive environment where apprentices can thrive, developing both professionally and personally as they contribute to real-world projects from day one, working alongside highly-experienced engineers.
For this year’s award, team leaders and supervisors were invited to nominate outstanding apprentices, providing supporting reasons for their selections. All nominations were carefully reviewed before a final decision was made. We are incredibly proud of all our apprentices and will continue to celebrate their achievements as they progress through their apprenticeship journey. EDM extends a huge thank you and congratulations to all employees and apprentices for their continued dedication and hard work.
