Submarine, Escape, Rescue, Abandonment and Survival
EDM’s SMERAS (Submarine, Escape, Rescue, Abandonment and Survival) training equipment is trusted by defence organisations around the world. Designed to simulate realistic emergency scenarios, our systems help prepare naval and seafaring personnel for the unique challenges of submarine escape and survival.
The Submarine Casing Abandonment Trainer replicates a section of a generic submarine hull, enabling trainees to practise safe and effective abandonment techniques. It provides:
Practical, hands-on training for water entry from a submarine casing
Realistic simulation of exit points and hull features
A controlled environment to minimise risk during instruction
The SETT provides critical training for escaping from a distressed submerged submarine (DISSUB). It supports:
Escape, training in ascent techniques and equipment use
Rescue, preparation for external recovery operations
Survival, techniques to increase survivability post-escape
Used by the Royal Navy and other global defence forces, SETT ensures personnel are fully prepared for underwater emergencies.
EDM is proud to have worked closely with the UK Ministry of Defence to develop the SMERAS training facility at Faslane Naval Base. This advanced training environment plays a key role in ensuring Royal Navy personnel are equipped with the skills to respond effectively to submarine emergencies.
