NX Digital Signalling Simulator

NX Digital Signalling Simulator

EDM’s state-of-the-art eNtry-eXit (NX) Digital Signalling Simulator (DSS) is designed to realistically model functions of the signal control systems while incorporating the flexibility to create degraded working arrangements and safety-related incidents within a secure, controlled environment.

The DSS is the ultimate training tool for Signallers, allowing them to gain experience and confidence in managing train movements in a simulated environment and provides an opportunity for trainees to experience and learn from challenging scenarios that may be difficult to replicate in the field.

It comprises of a trainee’s console capable along with an instructor’s console for control of the simulation. The facility also allows other trainees to view the scenario and the ability to record and review simulation runs.

The DSS has the ability to upload timetable and train pathing arrangements from Rail Validation Systems in widely used formats. It can also assess Safety Critical Voice Communications in real-time, and record them for playback, enabling trainees to learn from real-life scenarios in a safe, controlled environment.

It combines EDM’s propriety simulation software, CASCADE (Computer Aided Signalling Control and Design Environment) and extensive experience and knowledge gained in developing Signalling Simulators for over 30 years.

The DSS will have the capability of simulating the area of control for a typical signalling location in terms of:

  1. System functionality and interlocking
  2. Simulated level crossing procedures and CCTV
  3. Upload of working timetables
  4. Operational communications systems

The DSS allows signallers to practice real-world training scenarios on a generic track layout ‘Gatestown’ within a safe environment, allowing the creation of a diverse range of problems to prepare for stressful and demanding real-world situations.

The DSS has the ability to build and upload operational scenarios, deliver scenario based specific timetables and generate and manage equipment failures and service disruptions.

Key Points

  1. Instructors can create instructor and student accounts, create lessons/scenarios, create different initial conditions, start recording sessions for students and play back students records.
  2. Students can open lessons/scenarios and practise in self-teach mode.
  3. Simulates the rail network including the movement of trains, system functionality and interlocking, allowing the user to realistically control movement of trains.
  4. Ability to upload working timetables.
  5. Accepts and introduces trains according to a timetable.
  6. Accurately models TCB signalling concepts and processes.
  7. Allows communication between the trainer in the roles of ‘driver’ and ‘signaller’ via the concentrator simulator.
  8. Integrates seamlessly with the GSM-R simulator (developed by EDM).
  1. Using the track edit application the system can replicate real life track schemes.
  2. Ability to integrate with Westcad
  3. Enables new scenarios and sessions to be created.
  4. Enables events and faults, such as SPADs and track, signal, and points failures / equipment failures to be created.
  5. Provides recording and playback of the sessions.
  6. Pre-programmed special events timetables / scenarios can be built offline and inserted into the simulation.
  7. Ability to record lessons and provide de-briefing/post lesson analysis and provide KPI outputs.

After Sales Service and Support

Throughout the development and lifespan of our railway training simulators, we have identified that our clients want the benefit of having a team dedicated to them when they need both problem shooting queries or looking at general maintenance and repair work.

We have set up an intuitive system that enables our clients with the means to contact us with ease through our support page, which has been designed to use modern day contact features which users can send their messages and get feedback within a given time frame. This all allows our clients to have full control over their technical support delivered by EDM.

To get to our support page, simply click right here and follow the instructions on the page, which will guide you through to our team who will be able to get feedback to you soon.
