EDM Featured in The RAF Coningsby Journal

EDM Ltd has been featured in the Summer 2025 issue of The RAF Coningsby Journal for its role in the UK Ministry of Defence’s Reduce to Produce (RTP) programme, an initiative focused on repurposing parts from retired military aircraft for new applications.

The article highlights EDM’s work on the Crew Escape and Safety Systems Trainer (CESST) in support of RAF Typhoon aircraft technician training.

The CESST, destined for RAF Coningsby, allows Typhoon maintenance technicians to safely train in the arming and disarming of the canopy jettison system and the fitting and removal of the Martin-Baker MK16A ejection seat. By reusing real components from decommissioned Tranche 1 Typhoons, including the former RAF display jet “Blackjack” (ZJ914), EDM has helped reduce both lead times and costs while improving environmental sustainability.

The feature praises the collaboration between EDM, the UK MoD, BAE Systems, and the Typhoon Total Availability Enterprise (TyTAN) Service Delivery team, recognising it as a “Best in Class” example of how industry and government can work together to achieve shared goals in capability, efficiency, and sustainability.

The CESST demonstrates EDM’s ongoing commitment to supporting defence readiness while promoting a sustainable approach to the lifecycle of military assets, ensuring the legacy of aircraft like Blackjack continues to live on in future generations of training technology.
