18 June 2013

EDM is pleased to welcome a VIP trade delegation from Malaysia to its Manchester based factory today. The visit, comprising of CEOs from Malaysian investment promotion agencies, was organised in conjunction with UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) North West and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA). The aim of the visit is to foster trade and investment links between the UK and Malaysia.

The company most recently announced new business contracts with China Eastern Airlines, Philippine Airlines and Garuda Indonesia Airlines for the manufacture and provision cabin crew training devices. EDM is also involved in a number of hightech simulator projects including the BAE Systems Hawk and the F-35 Lightning II programme, the largest defence project in the world, for which it has been selected to design, develop and deliver a number of ground based training devices.

Tony Bermingham, EDM’s Managing Director said:

“EDM is delighted to welcome our guests from Malaysia on this important trade mission (to Manchester). We look forward to learning about the Malaysia Investment Development Authority’s objectives to encourage business collaboration and ventures between the UK and Malaysia. EDM has a truly global focus and a strong presence in Asia and we are always looking to grow our business in these expanding markets.”

During their visit, the VIP Malaysian delegation will enjoy talks with EDM and a factory tour where they will be able to view a demonstration of SEPTRE, EDM’s newest cabin crew training device, which combines motion, sound and real-time visual cueing for a true-to-life in-flight simulation experience.

Philomena Chen, Head of Asia Pacific Development, UKTI Northwest said:

“Commercial ties between the UK and Malaysia are very strong. UK exports to Malaysia in 2011 were valued at £2.25 billion, making it the UK’s second largest export market in South East Asia after Singapore. The UK is also one of the largest investors in Malaysia.

“UKTI North West has worked with EDM for many years, helping the company develop business in South East Asia, and we also have strong ties with UKTI Malaysia and MIDA. This visit demonstrates the strong relationship between the two markets and I am delighted that the delegation is able to visit EDM, a great example of an advanced engineering company in the North West which also has a strong presence in Asia.”
