EDM shares best practice with industry managers from China

Lancaster University’s Professor David H Brown accompanied by Chinese Industry Managers.

EDM Limited hosted a delegation from Lancaster University Management School and Renmin University at its premises today. The visit included six Chinese managers from a variety of industries who are participants on an executive development programme at Renmin University, one of China’s top universities. The innovative international programme is reciprocal and Western managers are hosted by Renmin University in China.

Professor David Brown, Director of Lancaster China Management Centre at Lancaster University Management School said:

“Our aim is to help Chinese very senior managers, largely from small and medium sized companies, to develop themselves by reflecting on how they, and other managers, manage. Many of the managers are owners or large shareholders. To do this we introduce them to a variety of well established North West UK businesses. Particularly interesting for the managers are the management practices and values in these businesses that have contributed to their development and longevity.”

The visit, hosted by Mick Bonney, EDM’s Director of Sales and Business Development, included presentations covering EDM’s approach to business and a factory tour on which the Chinese managers were able to see examples of our design, precision engineering and manufacturing capabilities.

Mick Bonney added:

“EDM has strong business links with China and we were very pleased to have been approached by Lancaster University to facilitate and share our best practice with colleagues from Renmin University. EDM has demonstrated significant business growth over the last four to five years especially with our trade in China and we were able to share information about our business approach, company culture and some of the challenges we have faced as an SME trading internationally.”

The delegation visited other SMEs in the Northwest and will continue their 20-month study programme with trips to meet other businesses located in Canada, Japan and Singapore.
